Il caffè sospeso, o meglio conosciuto in dialetto napoletano come “O’ ccaffè suspes”, è un’usanza tipica della cultura partenopea riproposta ormai in tutta Italia, ma anche in tanti altri Paesi del Mondo.
L’iniziativa è molto semplice: quando un cliente ordina un caffè sospeso, si ritroverà a pagare due caffè benché ne riceva uno soltanto. In questo modo, quando una persona bisognosa entrerà in quel bar per godersi un buon caffè, usufruirà di quel caffè rimasto in sospeso.
Non è ben chiaro il periodo in cui sia nata l’usanza e neanche il motivo. Secondo lo scrittore Riccardo Pazzaglia, la tradizione avrebbe origine dalle dispute che sorgevano al momento di pagare il caffè tra gruppi di conoscenti, amici o colleghi incontrati al bar.
Nel 2008, invece, lo scrittore partenopeo Luciano De Crescenzo ha raccolto ed elaborato una raccolta di articoli, considerazioni sul tema, intitolata “Il caffè sospeso. Saggezza quotidiana in piccoli sorsi!”.
Dal 10 dicembre 2011 la “Rete del Caffè Sospeso” ha istituito la “Giornata Mondiale del Caffè Sospeso” in appoggio a diverse associazioni culturali, come l’organizzazione Onlus “1Caffè” che cerca di riproporre questa tradizione a scopo benefico e su base volontaria dagli inizi del 2012.
La pratica del caffè sospeso è stata provata anche in alcuni bar della Bulgaria, Argentina, Irlanda, Spagna, Canada, Francia, Belgio, Grecia e Russia.
